Very few hip-hop artist can call themselves a cultural icon. With a superstar status that could rival the great pop acts like Michael Jackson or The Beatles. And only one can lay claim to have been the first diamond certified album in hip-hop history. Stanley Kirk Burrell aka MC Hammer came straight out of the streets of Oakland, and with his unique brand of hip-hop, took over rap and pop for almost ten years.
Hammer laid out the blueprint for rap superstardom in the early 90’s. With multi-million dollar endorsement deals and stadium tours Hammer’s earning power rivaled those of the highest selling pop stars of his time. Often seen now as a cautionary tale of what not to do when you make it big, there is no doubt that Hammer was one of the most successful rappers of all time.
